We are an independent, family friendly community church, whose roots lie firmly in biblical foundations. Our hope is that through us more people will come to know the love of God.

Our Sunday church services are an opportunity to share worship, prayer and fellowship, learning about and discussing Christ’s relevance to life today. During the message our younger members are invited to Glu club where they will learn about God through games, stories and craft.

Welcome!

Our building is not just a church but also a community hub for various groups, activities and forms of support. Because of that, it may not always look like a “church” in the traditional sense, but we firmly believe we are doing what God has led us to do in this space.

The building is accessible to pushchairs/ wheelchairs etcetera and we are happy to show you around if you pop in to see us.

Our Aim

We believe that we are here for a reason — God created and shaped the world and has a unique plan for each of our lives. However, He will not force Himself upon us, but knocks and waits for us to invite Him in. As Christians within a changing world, we believe it is our job to help and encourage people to find Him.

Our aim is to share God’s love with as many people as possible. We are able to do this through social, emotional and practical means whilst supporting our local community. Our services encourage and promote mental health and well-being, through our Sunday church service as well as a variety of groups and activities.

You can find out more on our "services" page.

When you come to a church service

We have plenty of chairs ready for you to make yourself comfortable - get the cushioned ones if you can! We also have some larger, softer chairs for those that need them. We may also have a baby bouncer out, because it is never too young to bring your child to church. Plant those seeds!

And up front is Nigel’s spot, where he leads us in worship and does all the “technical stuff” for the music. If you've never been to a service with us before, here's what you can expect:

  • Greeting and weekly announcements.

  • Worship music - lyrics are projected onto the wall so don’t worry if you don’t know the words, or you are welcome to simply listen.

  • Time for prayer - in your heart or out loud so we can come together in agreement with you.

  • Teaching which looks at passages of scripture relevant to the weeks topic.

  • A final song.

  • Parting prayer.

Statement of Faith
Summarised from our constitution
What we believe:

God: We believe in one God existing eternally in three persons: Father, Son (Jesus Christ), and Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ: we affirm the divinity of Jesus, His incarnation (birth to the Virgin Mary), His atoning death on the cross, His resurrection, ascension, and reign as our saviour.
Holy Spirit: we believe the Holy Spirit (our “helper”) leads individuals to repentance, unites them with Christ, equips them for Christian service, empowers their discipleship, and enables their witness.
Scripture: we believe the Old and New Testaments are inspired by God, were given as our “instruction manual for life” and are fully trustworthy.
Humanity: we believe man was created in God's image, having free will to live our lives. As humans we are corrupted by sin, and need to confess our sins before God and know His love for us. We each have a “God shaped hole” and need Him in our lives.
Salvation: we believe salvation is received through grace, admitting our sin, and inviting Jesus Christ into our lives, living by faith and trusting in Him.
Church: we believe church is NOT a building, but instead “a collection of people who
come together to worship, pray and share their lives together making up the body of Christ”, both locally and universally.
Kingdom of God: our vision is to see lives touched by God, to see individuals realise their need for Him, and have their lives changed by Him. To understand God's rule and reign
(Kingdom) in every area of life, both personal and societal.
Mission: our mission is to explore what it means to include Jesus in the whole of life, not just on a Sunday, and to serve God in establishing His kingdom on earth, making disciples to spread His love and word further.
Independent church: As an independent church, our work is based firmly on biblical principles. We practice believer's baptism (baptism after a profession of faith).

Our vision:

Essentially, the vision is the overarching dream, and aims are the steps taken to reach
that dream.
Our vision to be a “light” to the people of Spilsby and surrounding villages, showing and sharing God’s light in a very real and practical way. Supporting families and individuals in their everyday lives and letting them know about and sharing the love of God with them.

Our aim:

Our vision is met through a variety of groups, activities and services, from face-to-face groups, to support with food parcels, school uniform and household items, a listening ear and signposting to external support. Our Sunday service is the foundation for this outreach work. We believe “the church” comprises of each group, everyone who comes along to a group, and who takes part in events and services is welcome to be part of our friendly and welcoming community here at Spilsby Christian Fellowship.

History

If you have lived in Spilsby since your childhood, you may know that the Christian Fellowship on Halton Road, goes back almost 90yrs!

Spilsby Christian Fellowship – originally “Assemblies of God” - was pioneered in the 1930’s by a Mr Fletcher and originally would be The Masonic Hall.

Unfortunately due to ill health the work of the Assemblies closed in 1943, to re-commence again in 1947 following a crusade. At this time the work was led by Mr Eric Holmes of Boston, who set up a tent in a field off Ashby Road, The work was difficult and involved immense personal sacrifice and hardship for Brother Holmes. With no permanent hall, the work had to move from place to place, and for some time met in the Nissen Huts sited on land behind the present building on Halton Road.

In 1955 it was decided that there was the need for a permanent hall, and with £9 in the funds, a fund raising attempt was made. Within months £500 had been raised. Brother Holmes himself worked on the building, and the Church hall on Halton Road was opened in November 1956, shortly before he left to be a Pastor in Southampton

The church had a number of pastors through the next 10 years, and it has had its challenges. In 1966 Melvin Banks from Newcastle-upon-Tyne became Pastor, and began a “vigorous” evangelical programme. Every house in Spilsby was visited, along with each house in over 30 villages within a 20 mile radius from the town. Buses and cars began transporting people into the church for services and gospel literature was distributed, having a great impact on the area.

The church grew rapidly. A new church was planted in Horncastle and many people made the life changing decision to follow God. The history of the next 40 yrs is sketchy, and we would love to hear from anyone who has memories of Church Life at the renamed Pentecostal Church between 1970 and 2005.

Future

In October 2018 we launched our current Refurb. and Rebuild Project to enable us to raise funds to refurbish our main church hall which we use for Sunday services, community events and to house our School Uniform Bank. The building has had little work since the 1980’s and needs updating to ensure it is efficient, safe and accessibly.

 Refurbishments:

  • Levelling the floors and replacing carpet.

  • Replacing old single glazed windows and doors with energy efficient double glazed unit.

  • Adapting the present toilet facilities to provide disabled access and include baby change.

  • Installing a kitchenette to allow users to make full use of the hall.

  • and more.

Some of this work has been completed but we still have a way to go. We greatly appreciate every contribution that has been made over recent years and will continue to raise funds for future improvements.
